Your garage door is an important part of your home. Not only does it make your garage functionality easier, but it also adds protection to your home as well as your whole family. If your garage has a low quality or damaged garage door, do you think your vehicle is safe and protected? No. It can also be an entryway for uninvited guests especially if the garage is attached to your home. That is why it is important that you give a little care to your garage door like other parts of your home. 

However, as time goes by, your garage door ages and some of its safety components may start to fail. If you continually ignore your garage door and its signs of damage, it may give you more problems in the future or worse, can cause injury to you or your loved ones. Before your garage door issue turns into something serious that can lead to costly repairs, here are common garage door issues you should take note:

 

  • Your garage door is making loud noises

 

Have you heard your garage making odd noises such as squeaking, rattling or popping sound? Chances are, your garage has a problem that needs to be addressed immediately. Your rollers might need proper lubrication, its nuts and bolts are starting to get loose or because its torsion spring needs to be adjusted or lubricated. Make sure to check your garage door thoroughly to ensure that everything is functioning properly.

 

  • Your garage door is moving unevenly

 

Do you think that your garage door is not moving properly or unevenly? Try to open and close your garage door several times. If it is indeed moving unevenly, then take a closer look at your garage door. There might be something that’s blocking its track. Or, it could be a torsion spring issue – better check with the professional when it is the latter. 

 

  • Your garage door will not open or close

 

If the remote control doesn’t allow your garage door to open or close, check its batteries. If the batteries are good, it could be because the power source is disrupted. Check the outlet and see if it is plugged in.

 

  • Your garage door opens and closes on its own

 

Is your door giving you the creeps by opening and closing on its own? There is nothing scary about it because there are possible reasons behind it. It could be that the button on your transmitters is stuck up or the openers limit setting should be adjusted again. You can also check your garage door wirings just to be sure everything is fine.

 

  • Your garage door does not open/close completely

 

Generally, the photo eye sensors are the culprit. It should be properly cleaned and aligned. Check also your garage door track, there might be an obstruction that’s blocking the door. 

These are just a few of the common garage door issues that can be solved with a little bit of knowledge and some DIY so you can continue using your garage door for many more years. However, if the issues are more serious, then the best option for you is to call for professional help.
